Stay safe this Xmas
Dear <%= targetData.customerTitle %> <%= targetData.customerLastName %>,
The shops are getting busier with Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Christmas coming up. So when you’re using your Visa debit card this festive season, remember our tips for keeping your card – and your money – safe.
Our top tips on safer shopping
Our top tips on safer shopping
When you’re shopping it’s safer and easier to use your debit card to pay than carry cash.
For purchases up to £30, you can pay using contactless and as an additional security measure we will be asking you to input your PIN more often – it’s just another way for us to keep your money safer and more secure – simply use chip and PIN as normal.
If you’re shopping online, use trusted websites (look for the security padlock at the start of your address bar).
Make sure we have your up-to-date contact details. New regulations mean we need to check it’s really you more often when making purchases online. To do that we will send a one-time passcode (OTP) to your mobile. If you’re in an area with poor phone coverage there will be other options available to receive an OTP.
If you don’t receive goods you’ve paid for by card, contact the company you bought them from. If you can’t resolve the issue with them, visit our card payment support centre for support.
If you've misplaced your card, locking it is easy. Just use the lock/unlock feature on your app, call us or visit a branch. But if you think it's been stolen please cancel your card as soon as possible by calling us or visiting a branch.

Enjoy all the benefits of your Visa debit card on your mobile device. Pay using your mobile device anywhere you see the contactless symbol and you don’t need a mobile signal to pay. Unlike contactless cards, there is no £30 limit (retailer limits may apply and mobile payments are available on selected devices).
Apple Pay
When you make a purchase, Apple Pay uses a device-specific number and a unique transaction code. Your full card number is never stored on your device or on Apple servers, and it can’t be shared with merchants.
Google Pay
Google Pay protects your payment information with multiple layers of security and when you use your phone to pay in stores, Google Pay uses an encrypted number instead of your actual card number so your details stay secure.
Google Pay is a trademark of Google LLC.
Protect yourself from fraud and scams
Protect yourself from fraud and scams
Before you make ANY payment, take a moment to think twice about who you are sending money to. If a seller tells you they can’t accept a card payment and asks you to send them money directly, stop and think – could this be a scam?
Check your transactions and statements for card payments you don’t recognise. Some companies have a different trading name – here’s a list of the most common retailers to help you.
Only buy from genuine retailers and access websites directly. Always be cautious when purchasing goods off social media or sites such as eBay and Gumtree. Offers that seem too good to be true usually are.
Always remember, scammers are really convincing. If anyone, even someone claiming to be the bank, police or another organisation, gets in touch unexpectedly and asks for information such as login details, passcodes, remote access to your device or tells you to transfer money from your account - don't do it, it's a scam. End your contact with them and get in touch with us straight away.
